Shakespeare Schools Festival
Year 11 Performing Arts students from The Giles School are taking part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival on Tuesday 13th September 2009.

The Curwen Gallery visit
On Wednesday 21st October, Art teacher Miss Horton and Art technician Paul Dady took a group of year 12 Btec printmaking students and year 10 and 11 art and design students to the Curwen Gallery in Cambridge.
Wonderful Earth art Exhibition
The Giles had been approached by Revd Fiona Cotton Betteridge to exhibit some art work covering the theme "Wonderful Earth" for the Community Praise evening held at Old Leake community centre on the 16th October. The work chosen was created by various aged pupils using various techniques.
The Big Draw 2009
The Giles School has ambitious plans for The Big Draw 2009 which will be celebrated during the flexible learning day,14th October and will involve the whole of the lower school (years 7, 8, and 9). The theme for the day will be "The Human Condition" and activities will include, dance, physical theatre, human sculpture, installations, music, drawing with light, large scale mixed media collage, feltmaking, cookery, textiles, mediation and more.Flexible Day 1 "The Human Condition"
On the 14th October the Giles school held another successful flexible day.
The Giles invited various artists to take sessions with pupils from years 7-10. The Giles invited artists from various backgrounds.
These artists are listed below.
Charlie Harrison took a group of year 9 pupils creating large scale multi media paintings.
Susie Olczak took a group year 8 pupils drawing human movement.
Fiona Gurney took a group of year 9 pupils creating clay figures (inspired by Antony Gormley)
Carol Parker and Kate Smith held felt making classes with groups of year 7 pupils.
Mark Legg took a group of year 7 pupils teaching them circus skills
Cheryl Sheard took a group of year 9 pupils teaching them Spiritual well-being
RoadHoG
The Giles School had been asked to host the launch of the RoadHoG bus on the
1st October by Rev'd Fiona Cotton-Betteridge who is the vicar for Old Leake.
Kuleshwor Awas Secondary School
Kuleshwor Awas Secondary School is situated in Kuleshwor Height, Kathmandu, Nepal.The head Principal is Megh Raj Dulal.
The Giles School is currently in the process of creating a partnership with this school in Nepal. We are hoping to encourage an understanding between our pupils and pupils of other cultures around the world and that this will become a rich source of learning for both schools involved.

Lab in a Lorry
From Wednesday 25th November to Friday 27th November the Giles School played host to the Lab in a Lorry.
The Lab in a Lorry is divided into three experimental zones and a maximum of 18 students are divided equally into three teams and carry out each experiment for up to 30 minutes. Volunteers are on hand to encourage the students to try their hand at experimental physics and answer any questions that they have. There is a full time Operations Co-ordinator with the lab who briefs and supports the volunteers.

The art block is now 3 years old and is unique in lincolnshire for having over 750m2 of space devoted to art and design.
Young Enterprise Master Class
Monday 16th November was the start of Global Enterprise Week and during this period students of the Giles School took part in a Young Enterprise Master Class Day. This years theme was based on the forth coming Olympics in 2012. 80 students from Years 10 to 13 worked in groups to help solve problems faced by businesses. To help students, business advisors were invited and they have vast experience within the sporting industry.
These advisors were:
Barrie Pierpoint ex Chief Executive of Leicester City FC helping them to move turnover from £2m to £24m within 10years and a director of Lincolnshire sports partnership.

Sophie Horner Local ladies rugby coach and Jobcentre plus Personal Manager
Fiona Green Worked for FIFA during the World Cup in the USA in 1994 and now runs a successful company working in the sporting industry.
Staff Freestyle Yoga Classes
Part of the Community Cohesion development at the Giles School involves providing activities for staff. Tracey Benton arrannged for fully trained fitness instructor Jackie Dreher to come into the Giles once a week to teach Freestyle Yoga, it is proving to be very sucessful. Reflection Garden
In 2010 the school will open a new extension to the Japanese Garden.

This years pantomine being performed by performing arts students is Cinderella and will be taking place on the 16th and 17th December. Tickets are on sale from reception priced £5 Adults

NSPCC Young Photographer of the Year
The Giles School wishes to congratulate Year 7 pupil Tom Lister for being one of the NSPCC/PhotoBox photography competition winners. His photograph was classed Highly Commended by the judges and has been published in the PhotoBox official winners book along with the other winners.
